"Meghan, you got me wrong. I've just returned to the country, and Conrad is helping me contact the venue for my exhibition. Nothing is going on between us." Addison tugged at Conrad's sleeve. "Conrad, explain it to Meghan, so she doesn't get the wrong idea."
Meghan sneered silently and thought, you should be an actress.
Behind Conrad's back, you asked me to divorce him. And now you pretend to be so innocent. You phony.
Unfortunately, Conrad falls for it easily.
"There's nothing for her to get the wrong idea about." Conrad looked at Meghan's delicate face coldly. He was indifferent as if they had never been a couple.
Now that they had already signed the divorce papers, too much explanation would sound hypocritical.
Addison could tell that Conrad was on her side, so she became even more unscrupulous.
"Meghan, I'm having an exhibition next month. I'll send you an invitation, and make sure you come, OK?" Addison smiled sweetly. "Conrad has helped me a lot. He even gave me a lot of advice on setting up the venue."
She was showing off to Meghan through every word she said. She was implying that she was the most important one for Conrad.
"No need. Addison, you haven't forgotten how you went abroad with the award, have you?" Meghan smiled. There was a limit to her endurance.
Hearing Meghan's words, Addison panicked, and then she instantly became innocent again. "Meghan, what are you talking about? I worked so hard to win the prize and get the chance to go abroad. How could I forget?"
"I'm glad that you didn't." Meghan chuckled. She knew Addison too well. Addison would do anything to achieve her goal. However, karma was a real thing, and Addison would have her fair share.
"And I'm not interested in your exhibition at all. Besides, I remain doubtful whether the exhibition will be held."
Addison turned to look at Conrad with tears in her eyes. Meanwhile, her face was full of grievance. "Conrad, Mr. Figueroa promised to save us the largest exhibition hall. There won't be a problem, right?"
"Don't worry," Conrad said and smiled at her to reassure her.
In the next second, he glared at Meghan. "Meghan, don't try to ruin her exhibition, or this isn't over!"
"Is that so? Mr. Maxwell, we'll see." Meghan had no intention of arguing with them here because it would be disgraceful to do so, but she couldn't bear Addison's hypocrisy whatsoever.
"You..." Conrad was surprised that Meghan was bold enough to talk back to him publicly.
"Conrad, take it easy. You and Meghan are still married. I don't want you to quarrel because of me." Addison pulled Conrad, looking innocent. "I should have taken care of the art exhibition myself. I shouldn't have bothered you."
Addison was such a phony. Looking at her, Meghan got up. "Addison, what happens with you and my ex-husband is none of my business. Stop disgusting me."
Meghan took her handbag, and her good mood was completely ruined.
"Mr. Maxwell, if tomorrow works for you, I'll see you at the courthouse tomorrow." Then Meghan walked towards the stairs.
Addison thought that Conrad and Meghan had already had a clean break. It never occurred to her that they hadn't made the divorce official yet.
"Conrad, are you and Meghan going to divorce? If your grandma finds out, she will be upset, right?" Addison could not wait to marry Conrad, but she would not make it so obvious.
"I will talk to Grandma. I told you that I would marry you." Conrad patted her shoulder to reassure her.
"Conrad, you know what? I'm fine. I can wait. I hate to see you bicker with your grandma because of me."
"Don't think too much. All you have to do is prepare for the exhibition," he smiled at her.
Nyasia and Alma couldn't bear to watch them anymore. They were disgusted.
Nyasia and Alma went downstairs, too. "Meghan, Conrad is such a fool. Can't he see how hypocritical Addison is?"
"He is a fool indeed." Because of his favoritism, all he saw was Addison's good side. If others spoke ill of her, in his eyes, they were slandering her, the love of his life.
"It's right to divorce him. Sooner or later, he will regret it," Nyasia said indignantly. "Meghan, let's go. I'll go shopping with you. Don't let some philandering man and some phony ruin your mood."
"Maybe another time. If it's convenient for you, I'd like to go to your studio to sit for a while," Meghan smiled. Indeed, she didn't need to care about Conrad and Addison.
She no longer loved Conrad, and she didn't care. Of course, they wouldn't affect her whatsoever.
"Sure." Nyasia nodded.
Alma had to attend to the café. Therefore, Nyasia and Alma drove away one after another.
Conrad watched as the red sports car drove away from his line of sight. His eyes darkened, and he thought, what is Meghan up to?
"Nyasia, Mr. Figueroa talked to you about Mia's art exhibition the last time, right?" Meghan remembered that Nyasia had called her about it not long ago.
Nyasia nodded. "Yes. You said no at the time, so I turned Mr. Figueroa down."
The next second, Nyasia's eyes lit up. "Have you changed your mind?"
"Yes. It's really a great opportunity for me." Meghan had won several international awards for her paintings years earlier, but she had submitted her work under the name Mia, so few people knew her true identity.
"Contact Mr. Figueroa and tell him that I'm going to participate in the exhibition. Also, about the charity auction afterward, I'll put 'Night Rose' up for auction."
"Meghan, it's your favorite. Are you sure you want to auction it?" Nyasia was a little worried about Meghan. She felt that Meghan wasn't thinking straight after seeing Conrad and Addison together today.
"Yes. There's nothing to dwell on. Now that my marriage to him is over, the painting doesn't mean anything." To her, that painting had once been very important. It was the first painting she painted after her marriage, full of her love for Conrad and hope for the future.
"Alright then. I'll talk to Mr. Figueroa right now." Nyasia suddenly felt glad that Meghan was willing to hold an exhibition. For Conrad, Meghan had already let too many opportunities pass.
Nyasia thought, what's more, Addison earns her fame by stealing other people's work. And now she wants to hold an exhibition? How cheeky!
Meghan's exhibition is going to crush that of Addison. Addison will be utterly humiliated.
Nyasia immediately went to contact Lamont, who was in charge of the Acme Art Gallery, wanting to discuss the exhibition matters with him.
Meghan had just returned to Orchard Vista when she received a call from Addison. It seemed that today, after knowing that Meghan and Conrad had not gone through all the procedures, Addison was anxious.
"What's the matter?" Meghan leaned against the sofa and looked out the window, drinking tea. Her voice was lazy, relaxed, and indifferent.
"Meghan, I know that Conrad has already given you the villa and the money. Why are you still not satisfied?" Addison felt uneasy whenever she thought that Meghan and Conrad were still involved.
"Addison, what's wrong with you? When did I say I was not satisfied?" Meghan found Addison unreasonable.
Meghan thought, besides, who cares what Conrad gives me? I don't need anything, both the villa and the money included.
