Chapter 4 Be Sensible

In the afternoon at the café, Conrad's eyes were glued to Meghan until she drove away. At the thought of that, Addison turned even more uneasy.

"Then why have you been keeping showing up in front of Conrad? You do so just to get his attention, don't you?"

Meghan chuckled and said, "Addison, you get to do whatever you want, since Conrad loves you. Just because I don't mention what happened two years ago doesn't mean I don't care. He and I are already about to divorce. What do you have to worry about? Do you have no faith in him or yourself?"

"Meghan, don't think that I don't know that you have always loved Conrad. You took him from me two years ago. Who's to say you won't take him from me now?" Addison wasn't confident at all. She had no faith in him or herself.

Addison thought, the Maxwell family never allows me to be Conrad's wife. They think that since I am the Eva family's illegitimate daughter, I'm not worthy of him. But Meghan is just the Leigh family's adopted daughter. Who knows where she comes from? She doesn't deserve him any more than I do!

"Addison, do you think that I stole Conrad from you? You lost him, because you are greedy, OK? Don't make yourself sound so noble. And don't ever call me again. If you piss me off, aren't you afraid I'll go back on my word and not divorce him? And then your dreams won't come true..." Meghan smiled. She thought, Addison calls me because she wants me to divorce Conrad as soon as possible. Well, there she goes.

As they wish.

When Meghan finished speaking, she directly hung up the phone, not bothering to waste another second with Addison.

Meghan then logged on to Line and texted Conrad: "I'll see you at the courthouse tomorrow morning at 9:00."

He didn't reply, and she wasn't surprised. For so many years, she was the one who texted him, and he never texted her back.

The next morning, Meghan waited at the entrance to the courthouse. However, after two whole hours, Conrad was still nowhere to be seen. She called him, and he did not pick up the phone.

She was running out of patience and drove directly to the Maxwell Group. "Is Conrad here? I want to see him."

"Mr. Maxwell is in a meeting. How about I call Mr. Hastings for you?" The receptionist had met with Meghan at the company's annual meeting before, but according to company policy, she still had to report to the Secretarial Department.

When Mateo Hastings heard that it was Meghan, he immediately reported to Conrad.

"Let her up."

Meghan waited for a long time before Conrad ended the meeting and walked into the office with his slender legs.

"Conrad, I waited for you at the courthouse for two hours. Where were you?" Meghan walked up to him and looked up into his eyes, questioning him.

"I don't remember promising you. Besides, I'm busy," he said, indifferent and righteous.

She thought, fine. Indeed, he never texted me back.

"When are you free then?" Meghan bit her lip, enduring.

"We'll see." Conrad completely ignored Meghan, as if he was talking about someone else's divorce.

"Then, Mr. Maxwell, may I have an approximate time?" Meghan knew that he was busy with work, but no matter how busy he was, didn't he even have time to go to the courthouse to get a divorce certificate?

After all, he had time to go shopping with Addison yesterday.

"Are you that eager?" Conrad finally looked at Meghan.

"Mr. Maxwell, you brought up the divorce. Now that you've decided, what's the point of stalling?" Meghan didn't get it.

"What is it? Have you already hooked up with another man?" Conrad thought, I thought she would use Grandma as an excuse to pester me stubbornly. I didn't expect that she would urge me to get the divorce certificate.

What's she up to?

"It has nothing to do with you. Mr. Maxwell, don't you want to give the love of your life a title as soon as possible?" She thought, he proposes a divorce, and I agree. We should get things done as soon as possible.

Conrad strode forward and approached Meghan, and she subconsciously took a few steps back.

"I'm surprised. Since when did you become so generous?" Conrad held her wrist firmly and snorted.

"Mr. Maxwell, you are so generous to me, and I have nothing to worry about anymore. At least I should be sensible. I am not an ungrateful person." Meghan struggled, but he clutched her wrist even tighter.

He narrowed his deep eyes slightly, and his face was full of inquiry. He thought, you claimed that day that you wanted half my assets, and now you're sensible?

"Is that so?" Conrad slightly exerted force on his hand, and Meghan bumped into his arms. The two were very close, and his breath was clouding her judgment.

"Meghan, if I find out that you are doing something behind my back, you know what I'm capable of..." he said word by word next to her ear, and each word he said was reminding her not to have any improper thoughts. He called all the shots.

At the same time, the office door was pushed open. "Conrad, there is a newly-opened restaurant not far from the company. Let's go there together at noon..." Addison had not finished speaking when she saw the ambiguous and intimate scene.

"You... I'm sorry..." Addison had tears in her eyes as she turned to leave.

Meghan came back to her senses and pushed Conrad away, disappearing from his office as fast as she could.

Meghan sat in the car. Then it occurred to her that she was here to talk to Conrad about the divorce. How did she end up fleeing away?

She thought, that bastard! I'm sure he did it on purpose.

Meghan returned to Orchard Vista. When she was in Conrad's office, he made things difficult for her, and Addison bumped into them. She didn't get a divorce from Conrad. Instead, she got herself into trouble.

After lunch, she went back to her room to take a nap, trying to get rid of all the worries. Then Nyasia called her, inviting her to go to the clubhouse to have a drink. Meanwhile, they could talk about the exhibition and the charity auction. Also, they could celebrate Meghan escaping from her marriage.

Rory drove Meghan to the clubhouse. She permed her straight hair in big waves and wore elaborate makeup, looking sexy and seductive. She wore a long red halter dress and stepped off the car in high heels. "Rory, I'll call you when I'm done."

Nyasia waited early at the door of the clubhouse, worried that Meghan would not come.

As soon as Nyasia saw Meghan get out of the car, Nyasia immediately greeted her, "Meghan, you're here! I was afraid you wouldn't come! "

"There was a bit of traffic," Meghan smiled, curling up her beautiful rosy lips, looking very attractive. Coupled with her red dress, she attracted a lot of attention.

"Meghan, you are so beautiful today. I'm sure you'll be killing it!" Nyasia pulled Meghan into the private room. Once they entered the private room, Meghan saw Alma, a few other friends, and all kinds of men.

"Nyasia, what's this?"

Meghan thought, I thought we were here to talk about things. There's no need to call so many strange men here... Is there?

"I want you to see the world. Conrad is nothing. Besides him, there are a lot of rich and handsome men!" Nyasia then began to introduce them one by one.

Meghan couldn't care less about men now. She just wanted to focus on her career.
