At night, Angel appeared at the hospital wearing a peaked cap and a mask and went straight to Tanner's office.
"Your clothes are ready," Tanner said.
Tanner didn't ask what Angel was going to do. He just handed over the nurse's uniform to her.
When Angel changed into the uniform and was about to go out, Tanner reminded her kindly, "Angel, don't let love lead you to hatred. Don't act impulsively."
Angel rolled her eyes.
Was she the type of person who couldn't let things go?
After going out, Angel went straight to Polina's ward. When she passed by the corridor, she picked up the nurse's tray on the cart.
Angel lowered her head, pushed open the door of the ward, and walked out
Angel deftly injected the prepared medicine into Polina's blood vessels.
Polina frowned in pain, looked up into a pair of strange eyes, and asked, "Who are you?"
Since returning home, Polina had lived in this hospital and knew almost all the nurses there, so she was sure she had never seen this person before.
However, before Polina could receive an answer, she felt dizzy and lost consciousness.
Angel checked Polina's pulse, and a hint of solemnity flashed in her bright eyes.
This poison was all too familiar to her, as it was the same one she had helped Zachary develop years ago. Those who were affected by it would suffer worse than death, lose their ability to have sexual intercourse, and eventually become infertile. If she wasn't mistaken, Polina had been carrying this poison in her body for three years, and even if she received treatment, it would be difficult for her to conceive. The only way she could possibly become a mother was with long-term medication.
But she hadn't contacted Zachary for three years, and he had no dispute with Polina, so why had he poisoned her three years ago?
Before she could think further, Heller's voice came from outside.
"How is she today?"
Angel's eyes flickered, and she swiftly leaped out of the window like a cat.
The next second, the door was pushed open.
Heller walked in, and his gaze fell on the open window. He frowned and said to Chasel behind him, "Close the window."
"Heller..."
Polina woke up, recalling the strange woman who had just appeared and the unknown liquid she had injected into her. Polina's face instantly turned pale.
"Sorry to disturb your rest. I happened to be nearby and came to see you," Heller said, coming closer.
Polina grabbed his sleeve and said, "Heller, someone wants to kill me. Someone dressed up as a nurse and injected me with an unknown substance. Could it be the person who poisoned me three years ago? I don't want to die..."
Polina exposed the needle holes on her arm in front of Heller.
Heller's expression turned cold. He ordered, "Chasel, call the doctor."
After the examination, the doctor sniffed the syringe and said, "Mr. Foster, Ms. Stewart was only injected with a small amount of sedative, which won't cause any harm to her body. The dose was minimal."
Polina heaved a sigh of relief.
In the past three years, she had been tortured badly by poison. If there was one more poison, wouldn't it kill her?
She hadn't lived long enough. How could she die?
"Heller, I'm so scared. I'm so afraid that I won't be able to accompany you when I die one day." The corners of Polina's eyes were red, and she choked with sobs. Her eyes were filled with reluctance and deep affection for him.
Heller reassured her, "I won't let you die. We'll find that miracle doctor and cure you!"
"Really? Does that miracle-working doctor really exist?"
Over the years, Heller had said such things many times, but she had never seen a trace of the so-called miracle-working doctor. Polina even wondered if such a person existed in this world.
"Old Mrs. Hooper's decades-old illness was cured by her. But when we went to see her, she disappeared! As long as she's in Joplin City, I'll find her for sure!"
Heller patted Polina gently on the shoulder and comforted her, "Don't worry."
Polina suddenly hugged Heller's waist, leaning against his chest as she said softly, "Heller, I trust you."
In fact, Angel did not leave. If Heller looked out of the window, he could see a figure climbing up the pipe.
She heard the words in the ward clearly. Her glamorous face showed no other expression, only a hint of ridicule smile.
What a smooth talker that man was!
She slid down the pipe effortlessly and landed steadily on the ground.
After getting into the car, Jewell asked, "How is it? Can she be cured?"
"It can, but I don't want to take the job," Angel replied.
The poison had been in Polina's body for three years. To detoxify her, she would need six treatments, which meant she would be at risk of being discovered by Heller six times.
"Why not take advantage of the gullible guy who wasted three years of your time? Why not rip him off?" Jewell suggested.
"That's not right. Didn't you get half of his assets when you divorced him?"
Heller was worth billions of dollars. If Angel could get half of it, she would become a millionaire.
If that were the case, he would have a wealthy friend!
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I left with nothing,"
Angel didn't want to taint her love with money and accepted Heller's compensation. That didn't align with her original intentions when she married him on a whim.
Jewell was surprised. "It's not like you."
"I'll take the job. Tell him I'll do it for a billion dollars!"
Angel thought, "That bastard is so rich. It's not too much to blackmail him."
"five billion?"
"What? A billion dollars?" Jewell swallowed hard, admiring Angel's cruelty.
Angel was really somebody. She even said one billion in such a casual manner.
