Chapter 4

Elizabeth was a little helpless, "It's only rain. I'm fine."

After speaking, she stepped forward and put yesterday's work report on the table.

"This is a summary of yesterday's work. I have sorted it out. I have something else to do so that I won't bother you."

Elizabeth looked at Becky. She immediately smiled.

Elizabeth went out. Max frowned tightly behind her.

"Max?"

It wasn't until Becky called him that he returned to his senses.

Seeing this, Becky was puzzled. But she still said gracefully and considerately, "I don't think Elizabeth's condition is very well. Before her family went bankrupt, she was a spoiled young girl. But now she is your secretary. Max, you must be nice to her. Don't be too harsh."

Harsh treatment?

Max sneered, "Who could be harsh on her?"

But he didn't speak it out. He just responded, "I know."

Elizabeth returned to her office dizzily.

As soon as she sat down, she couldn't help falling down.

The dizziness got worse.

After a long time, Elizabeth heard Kiera's voice.

"Elizabeth, are you all right? Go back home to have a good rest."

Elizabeth couldn't cheer up and felt uncomfortable, so she could only whisper, "Kiera, I'll take a nap."

After saying that, she fell into a deep slumber.

Elizabeth dreamed.

In the dream, she returned to the year when she was eighteen.

That day was the coming-of-age ceremony for her and Max.

The two families held the ceremony together. Elizabeth put on her favorite blue dress, specially permed her curly hair, and got her nails done. She had planned to confess her love to Max on that day.

She searched for a long time before finding Max in a small garden.

While holding up her skirt and about to walk over, she heard some of Max's friends jokingly asking him.

"Max, you're an adult now. Do you have a girl you like? You can consider getting engaged."

"I think Elizabeth is not bad. She follows you all day long."

When Elizabeth heard this sentence, she subconsciously stopped, wanting to hear Max's answer.

After all, his answer was necessary for what she would do next.

However, before Max could answer, someone said, "Elizabeth is not good, but she is a younger sister to Max. We all know Max only likes one person. That is Becky."

Becky...

Elizabeth secretly looked at Max.

In the night, he was sitting on a stone bench. His legs were so long that they barely rested on the ground. There was a faint smile on his handsome face, and he didn't deny it.

"Indeed. Becky is more gentle and charming with a feminine touch. Elizabeth is just a little girl. Most importantly, Becky is Max's lifesaver."

The person who said this was Keith Terrell, one of Max's best friends. He usually liked to tease Elizabeth the most. Every time he saw her, he would pull her braid.

He was one of the people Elizabeth hated the most.

He called her a little girl.

"That's right. Becky saved your life. Back then, the river was rushing. You might not be here if she hadn't jumped in to save you."

Max nodded and hummed, "Yes."

His face was pale under the moonlight, "The place next to me will always be reserved for Becky."

Boom...

Elizabeth's face turned pale in an instant. She felt her mouth was dry, and her body was trembling.

Unexpectedly, her love failed even before it started.

Becky saved Max's life. Each one of their friends knew about it.

In fairy tales, heroes rescued beauties. In Max and Becky's story, the beauty saved the hero. Becky was the brave beauty.

But Elizabeth was not clear about this matter.

She also fell into the water that year. She had a high fever and fell ill after that. When she woke up, she had forgotten many things before and didn't even know how she fell into the water.

A classmate said she accidentally fell into the water because she was playful.

However, Elizabeth always felt that she had forgotten something. Unfortunately, she couldn't remember it. Later, as she got older, she completely forgot what had happened.

She never expected that Max would take Becky's rescue so seriously. After so many years, he still thought about it.

Elizabeth wished she was the one who jumped into the water and saved his life.

Her emotions in the dream seemed to merge with her real feelings.

She felt her heart being crushed by a boulder, and her headache was even worse. Why wasn't she the one who jumped down to save him?

If I were her... If I saved him...

Suddenly, Max's face appeared in front of her. His eyes were cold and ruthless, "Elizabeth, abort the baby."

Immediately after, Becky appeared beside him. She clung to him like a vine.

"Elizabeth, why you don't abort the baby? Do you want to sabotage our relationship?"

Hearing her words, Max's eyes became colder. He stepped forward and pinched Elizabeth's chin, "Be obedient, or I will do it."

The force in his hand was so strong that it almost crushed Elizabeth's jaw.

Elizabeth struggled and suddenly woke up. She was drenched in a cold sweat.

What caught her eye was the road going back outside the window.

Wasn't it a dream??!

Why was so real? Was she still dreaming?

Elizabeth let out a long breath.

"Elizabeth, you're awake." A soft voice came from the front. Elizabeth raised her eyes and saw Becky's worried face, "That's great. I was still worried about you."

Becky? Why was she here?

Immediately afterward, Elizabeth realized something and looked to her side.

Sure enough, the driver was Max. Becky sat by his side.

Max was driving. Hearing their conversation, he only glanced at her through the rearview mirror.

"You are awake. Are you feeling okay now? I will drive you to the hospital, and you can tell the doctor you feel later."

Elizabeth had heart palpitations due to the lousy dream earlier. After waking up, her heartbeat finally calmed down a little, and she became nervous again because of Max's words.

"No, you don't need to drive me to the hospital. I'm fine."

Hearing this, Max glanced at her again.

"What's your problem? Do you know that you have a fever?"

Becky also said, "Elizabeth, you have a bad fever and must go to the hospital. I heard from Max that you were caught in the rain yesterday. What happened?"

What had happened?

Looking at Becky's face, Elizabeth's pale lips moved, but she didn't utter a single word.

Becky must have been presented at the farce yesterday.

Was she implying something by asking this question?

She was lost in her thoughts. Becky showed a worried look and looked at her apologetically, "Was it yesterday..."

Max interrupted her with a calm voice, "Anyway, we go to the hospital first. You don't need to go to work these days. Take a good rest at home."

Becky's words were interrupted. She glanced at Max in surprise.

Elizabeth lowered her eyes. There was a deep sadness in her beautiful eyes.

Unlike her, he cared about Becky so much.

After a long time, Elizabeth raised her head, "I'm not going to the hospital."

Max frowned, wondering why she was so headstrong today.

"You're sick, but don't go to the hospital. What do you want to do?"

Elizabeth pursed her lips, "I know my own body very well."
